Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how VocabBondhu (ভোকাব বন্ধু) — accessible at vocabbondhu.com — collects, uses, stores, and shares information about people who use the site and the companion mobile application. By using VocabBondhu, you agree to the practices described below.

1. Information we collect

We are committed to collecting the minimum amount of data required to operate the service. No account, name, email, phone number, address, or government identifier is required to use VocabBondhu.

a. Anonymous identifier

When you first visit the site or launch the mobile app, we generate a random anonymous ID (e.g. ####) and store it in your browser's localStorageor the app's local storage. This ID is not linked to any personally identifiable information and cannot be used to identify you outside of VocabBondhu.

b. Learning progress

We store, keyed to your anonymous ID, the headwords you have marked as "known" or "still learning", the dates you reviewed each word, and spaced-repetition metadata (interval, easiness, next review). This is used solely to deliver the app's core features (flashcards, quizzes, progress dashboard, streak counter) and is never shared with third parties.

c. Technical logs

Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) logs standard request metadata in the normal course of operating their CDN, in line with their own privacy policy. We do not access, store, or process those logs ourselves.

2. Third-party services

VocabBondhu uses the following third-party services. Each one has its own privacy policy that you should also review.

a. Google AdSense

We intend to fund the free service partly through Google AdSense, but no ads are currently running on the website — we have not yet been approved for AdSense. This section describes what will be true once that changes, so nothing appears without prior notice here.

Once ads are live, Google, as a third-party vendor, will use cookies — including the DoubleClick DART cookie — to serve ads based on your visit to this site and to other sites on the internet. You will be able to opt out of personalised advertising at google.com/settings/ads and learn more about how Google uses information at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

b. Google AdMob (mobile)

The mobile app does not display advertising today; AdMob has not been integrated yet. If we add it in a future release, this section will be updated first. Once active, AdMob may collect device identifiers, approximate location (derived from IP), and ad-interaction data in accordance with Google's advertising policies.

c. Google Analytics

We may use Google Analytics 4 to understand aggregate site usage (pages visited, time on site, country-level location). Google Analytics uses cookies and similar technologies. We do not enable advertising features in Analytics. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

d. Cloudflare

The site is hosted on Cloudflare. Cloudflare may process minimal connection metadata to deliver content and protect against attacks. See Cloudflare's Privacy Policy.

3. Cookies

The cookies and similar technologies used by VocabBondhu fall into these categories:

• Strictly necessary — our anonymous ID stored in localStorage (not technically a cookie, but functionally similar). Required for the app to remember your progress.
• Advertising— not set today, since no ads are running (see section 2a). Once Google AdSense is approved and enabled, this will include Google's ad-delivery and measurement cookies, including the DoubleClick DART cookie.
• Analytics — Google Analytics cookies. Used to count visits and understand which pages are most useful.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but doing so may impair features such as progress tracking.

4. Children's privacy

VocabBondhu is an educational tool and may be used by people under 18, including students preparing for SSC and HSC examinations. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children. Because we do not require an account or any personal data, no special action is needed by parents or guardians for a child to use the service safely. If you believe a child has shared personal information with us inadvertently, please contact us and we will delete it.

5. Data sharing & sale

We do not sell any user data. The third-party services listed in section 2 receive only what they need to perform their function (advertising, analytics, hosting).

6. Your rights

Because we do not link your data to any identity, you can fully exercise your rights at any time on your own:

• Erase your data — use the Settings page's “Clear my data” button. This removes your anonymous ID and all associated progress both from your device and from our server. You can also clear your browser's site data manually as an alternative.
• Opt out of advertising — there is nothing to opt out of today, since no ads are running yet. Once enabled, see the links in section 2a.

7. Data retention

Anonymous progress records are retained until you clear your local storage or request deletion. Server logs are retained no longer than 30 days.

8. International transfers

Our hosting provider operates a global edge network, which may store and process data in countries other than your own (including the United States and the European Union). By using VocabBondhu, you consent to this transfer.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page will reflect the most recent revision.
